During my internship with Communicare, I supported public relations and marketing efforts across digital, print, and event planning. My work included website development, social media strategy, copywriting, campaign design, and multimedia content creation, all aimed at strengthening community outreach and raising awareness around mental health and substance use.

Alcohol Abuse Prevention Coasters

As part of a mental health awareness campaign, I designed a series of alcoholism awareness coasters that merged functionality with messaging.  The goal was to spark awareness in casual settings without heavy-handed messaging, making the intervention feel approachable rather than preachy. By embedding subtle but impactful reminders into social spaces, the coasters reframed prevention as part of daily life, blending design creativity with public health communication strategy.

Transition of Newsletter from PDF to Mailchimp

I transitioned Communicare’s newsletter from a static PDF attachment to a dynamic Mailchimp format, improving accessibility, readability, and audience engagement. The new platform will allow for interactive features and better tracking of open/click rates and transforms the newsletter into a strategic communication tool rather than a simple update.

Plan for Youth
Town Hall

I developed the initial plan for Communicare’s Youth Town Hall, a day-long event bringing together high school students from eight counties to address substance use prevention. My work included outlining interest-based breakout groups (writers, designers, performers, etc.), developing a plan of action, and compiling key community contacts. The event was designed to empower students with lived experiences to share their voices, create campaign ideas, and shape future prevention efforts.

Website Development

Under the guidance of my supervisor, I built the initial iteration of Communicare’s new website, moving the organization from a dated design to a clear, modern platform. I created dynamic service pages with consistent layouts, improved navigation, and integrated blog planning for two years of content, making the site more accessible, engaging, and useful for the community.​

2 Years of Blog Content Outlines

I developed two years of blog content outlines for Communicare, creating a strategic framework that aligned with the organization’s outreach goals. Each outline was designed to highlight key themes in mental health and substance use awareness while providing flexibility for seasonal relevance and timely community updates.

Videography

I produced video content for Communicare’s social media, creating short, engaging pieces that highlighted community programs and awareness campaigns. These videos were designed for platforms like Instagram and Facebook, balancing accessibility with visual storytelling to connect with diverse audiences and strengthen the organization’s digital presence.​​

Radio Ads

I wrote a series of 12 monthly radio ads for Communicare, each aligned with a different theme in mental health and substance use awareness. The ads balanced approachable language with clear calls to action, ensuring messages were memorable, community-focused, and consistent across the organization’s year-long outreach strategy.

Copy for Commodore Classic

I created the copy for a series of golf-themed pun signs for the Commodore Classic, a youth golf competition in Oxford, Mississippi. Each sign was placed at a hole and paired a playful pun with Communicare’s prevention messaging. The lighthearted approach made the signs fun and memorable while reinforcing awareness in a community setting.​

I designed social media graphics for Communicare, creating visually consistent content that supported outreach campaigns and community programs. The graphics balanced clarity with creativity, using bold visuals and approachable messaging to engage audiences across platforms while reinforcing the organization’s mission around mental health and substance use prevention.​

University of Mississippi Athletics Yearbook Ad

I designed an advertisement for the University of Mississippi’s athletics yearbook, tailoring the concept to reflect the spirit of The Grove, the university’s iconic gathering place. The ad blended Communicare’s branding with a design that felt rooted in campus culture, ensuring the message was both eye-catching and contextually relevant.​
